Case Study — Starbucks Barista Championships 2026

In September 2026, Del was engaged to direct and vision mix the Starbucks Barista Championships 2026 — a five-day live competition event requiring multi-camera direction across a dedicated production gallery and an active event floor, with three days of live YouTube streaming throughout.

The engagement ran from rig and setup on day one through block and rehearsal on day two, then three consecutive live production days covering content capture, semi-finals and the championship final. On each stream day, Del directed four roaming RF cameras — feeding the in-room screens and the live stream simultaneously, working alongside gallery producer Jo from White Label Media as the competition schedule changed in real time around them. The final day ran two back-to-back YouTube streams: 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 16:30, ending with the live reveal of the 2026 winner.

Every element was unrehearsed and unscripted, driven by a running order that updated live throughout each day. The client described it as the most complicated and best year of the Starbucks Barista Championships to date.
